General Info:

Well, there's no trouble finding the pub as there seems to be one on almost every high street (all displaying the same sepia photograph proving their century-long existence in some particular city, even if not this one). But it proves to be somewhat harder to find a vegetarian meal which is value for money.

Most sections of the menu do include one vegetarian option but it is hardly inspirational. I don't look for ground-breaking veggie meals as a constituent part of pub fare but a jacket potato with grated cheese lacks even the most basic imagination.

Only one of the nine value meals is suitable for vegetarians and other meat-free options are not at all clearly labelled. You can get a beanburger with chips for a fiver but only if you have spent fifteen minutes deciphering the menu. Although, if all you want is a plate of nachos to see you through, you will find it as easily here as anywhere else.

Not one of the 'grills' is suitable even though everyone knows how well peppers, courgettes and corn suit themselves to this medium of cooking and quorn is readily available nowadays. Or, with a bit of consideration, you could substitute the steak for haloumi cheese.

For a quick drink and a packet of crisps Yates's is asgood as any other pub, but for a vegetarian meal it is sadly lacking.
